MARGAO: Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar on Saturday asserted that the government would move the file by Monday to take over the Chowgule Higher Secondary School if the education society fails to open admissions by then.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the Sankalp program at the Ravindra Bhavan here on Saturday morning, Parrikar said the Education Department has already despatched a letter to the Chowgule Education Society to start the admission process immediately.
When a scribe sought to point out that the Chowgule Higher Secondary comes under the category of a college, the Chief Minister said he is not concerned about the technicalities, asserting that higher secondary education comes under the Education Department.
“How can the Chowgule Education Society stop admissions to the students. The society has not been given any stay by the High Court to stop admissions, while the request to close down the higher secondary school stands rejected by the Education Department”, he said.
Replying to a question, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Education portfolio, said the government will move the file by Monday for taking over the Chowgule Higher Secondary School. “It may take a day or two to initiate and complete the process, but the government would definitely go for a takeover”, he added.
Parrikar said the government will not allow the closure of admissions by Chowgule taking into account the high percentage of students at the SSC examination this year.
No change in our stand: management
MARGAO: Suspense continues over admissions to Chowgule Higher Secondary School on Saturday, with the management saying there’s no change in their stand on the admissions.
Chowgule Higher Secondary School Principal, Prof R Gaonkar told Herald that the higher secondary school had received the letter from the Education Department to start the admissions, but maintained that the management has not taken any decision to open the admissions.
When his attention was drawn to the statement by Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar that the government will take over the higher secondary school if the HSS does not open the admissions immediately, Gaonkar said the management will seek legal opinion on the matter, saying that there’s a process and procedure that needs to be followed up vis-à-vis takeover. A number of students turned up at the higher secondary school on Saturday seeking to know any change in the stance of the Chowgule Education Society, but returned home disappointed after being told that the higher secondary school is yet to open the admissions.
