MARGAO: South Goa district collectorate, police and Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AHVSD) on Tuesday have decided to do mapping and registration of all the bulls and their owners to stop the illegal bullfights organised in Goa. They have also decided to insert a chip into the bull’s body.
Upon the directions of High Court, AHVSD held a workshop on ban on bull fights at South Goa district collectorate building, which was attended by all Police Inspectors of South Goa district. District Collector Ruchika Katyal also attended and heard the difficulties faced by the police while taking actions against the illegal bull fights.

“We had deliberated on the help from the department of AHVS to the police department. Police officials have informed us that they are unable to take action against the bull fights when they are organised between short periods of time,” said Prashant Naik, Member secretary of Animal Husbandry, South Goa.
According to him, it will be easy to take action once the bull and his real owner are identified, and the department is planning to carry out exercises in these regards.
“It has been brought to the notice that actually owners are not coming forward to claim their bull at the time of action by the police. Second major issue was raised and that is police have no trained team to catch the bulls,” said Naik.
“Organizing a bull fight is a serious crime and it is already banned by the court. We along with the police department are planning to control the illegal bull fights in coming days,” he added.
Naik also appealed to the public not to support the cruelty against bulls for the sake of enjoyment and the department will take police protection in identifying the bulls and their owners.
