MAPUSA: Aldona Panchayat on Thursday convened a joint meeting with the various stakeholders to discuss and resolve the technical issues pertaining to NOCs required for the reconstruction or repair of Aldona market building, which is presently in a pathetic condition and has been declared unsafe.
The meeting was held at Parish Centre in Aldona which was presided over by Aldona Sarpanch Pranesh Naik in presence of Panchayat Secretary Dinesh Chodankar, panchas, representatives of Fabrica of St Thomas Church, Aldona; Nelson Figueiredo and Falvia D’Costa, shopkeepers and vendors.
MLA Glen Ticlo was also present.
During the meeting, Sarpanch Pranesh Naik and Panch Deepak Naik highlighted that they need cooperation from Fabrica and also the shopkeepers to take up the reconstruction or repairs of the market building.
After having the discussion, it was decided that the panchayat will submit a tentative plan of action proposed for Aldona market to Fabrica. Following which the Fabrica Committee would hold a meeting and take decision on issuing NOC to the panchayat to take reconstruction work.
Sarpanch Pranesh said,”We had called for a joint meeting with the stakeholders regarding the Aldona market issue. A fair discussion was held and came to a conclusion that the panchayat will submit plans and will hold another meeting next week and try to settle the issue. Our MLA has assured that once the issue is settled then within one month’s time he would lay the foundation for the market.”
The representative of Fabrica of St Thomas Church, Aldona Nelson Figueiredo said,”Our relationship with the panchayat is based on two lease agreements dated November 15, 1972 and October 26, 2006 and the panchayat has to adhere to it. We have asked the panchayat to give us details and rough plans about what they want to do, areas to be used and other details so that we can study and take the decision.”
Shopkeeper Dilip Haldankar said,”We hope that reconstruction of market is taken up soon and issues are resolved. For shopkeepers and vendors there is an issue of rehabilitation. Small shopkeepers and vendors can be rehabilitated but gold smith and others cannot be rehabilitated.”
