PORVORIM: Refuting allegations by Aldona Panchayat Secretary Clifton Azavedo that he had sought NOCs for unauthorised structures, Aldona Panch Vallabh Polle has insisted that he was only demanding NOCs for legal houses built under the Bandodkar Awaz Yojana Scheme (BAYS).
Dismissing Azavedo’s allegations against him, Polle told Herald that houses built under BAYS were implemented after the death of former chief minister Dayanand Bandodkar.
“The foundation stone was laid by former chief minister Shashikala Kakodkar sometime in the 1970s. All these houses are legal and authorised and the house numbers were issued to them in serial order 40 years back,” claimed Polle.
“I feel sad that some officers like the panchayat secretary of Aldona do not know the procedures and he has never heard of the BAYS. He does not even know that house numbers are to be issued to those houses which are built under government schemes,” Polle added.
Responding to Azavedo’s statement regarding a disqualification petition against him, Polle said, “Very soon, the people of Aldona will become aware of this. Before pointing fingers at others, one must look at oneself. Two years back, Azavedo was suspended as secretary of Nerul Panchayat following allegations of having issued house numbers to illegal houses. I have sought for these details under the RTI Act.”
Polle then accused Azavedo of “changing his colours according to the situation.”
“It has been noted very often that the resolutions passed by the Panchayat and the minutes written by the secretary do not match and issues which have not been discussed appear on the minutes. This was exactly what he did at the last fortnightly meeting, which I have referred to in my police complaint,” said Polle.
