PANJIM: Science and Technology Minister Alina Saldanha on Monday went against Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s ‘no’ to special status.
Saldanha, along with other activists supporting her, claimed that the fight for special status is to protect the State’s identity and that they will not give up.
Saldanha said, “Nobody said that special status will not be given. We will not give up until the issue is discussed and voted against in Parliament. This is an important process to be carried out.”
The fight is still on and the people in favour of this demand will continue supporting this until their demand is fulfilled and immediate consideration of this issue by Parliament is taken so that justice is done to the demand, she said.
Parsekar had earlier said that the demand was equivalent to chasing a ‘mirage’ and that special status is just not possible.
Saldanha said that the government will have to take into consideration the demand for special status as it was taken up in the campaign in past elections. She added that the government has to keep its promises or give a proper explanation as to why the demand cannot be taken up.
