MARGAO: The gram sabha of Ambelim village panchayat took a resolution calling for the demolition of the allegedly illegal bungalow at Old Goa as it is within the protected area under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), recognized by UNESCO.

The gram sabha also passed a resolution calling for the withdrawal of the approval granted by the Central Government to the Karnataka Government’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the diversion of Mhadei river.
The gram sabha has resolved to address a covering letter to the PMOs office with respect to the said resolutions.
The meeting was presided over by Alexander D’Silva, who was recently elected unopposed as the new Sarpanch of the village.
The gram sabha also discussed a local issue where the government was urged to consider making a lake in the Velim constituency a wetland, so that it can act as a water reservoir and be a source of water for the village.
D’Silva added that presently, the village is dependent on water from the Selaulim Dam and there have been instances of inconsistent water supply, which needs to be addressed.
He said the necessary filtration mechanism can be set up at this lake in Velim by the authorities.
