MARGAO: Strongly objecting to the amendments proposed by the Goa Legislative Assembly to the Goa Lokayukta, the Goa Hitrakhan Manch has urged the Governor not to give his assent and send the Bill to the Assembly.

GHM spokesman Prashant Naik said the GHM feels that the proposed amendments will make the Goa Lokayukta, which is yet to come into force, toothless. “Further, no person will come forward to file complaints out of fear of a huge penalty to upto Rs 10 lakh or imprisonment. The provision to subject the report of the Lokayukta to the competent authority, which includes the chief secretary is highly deplorable,” he said, adding that the deemed rejection clause will act in favour of rejection of the Lokayukta report. He has called upon all like-minded people to fight for an appropriate Lokayukta Act.
