This is with reference to our report ‘Goa Foundation to ask Justice Shah to probe black money trails from illegal mining’ on December 12, where our reporter mentioned that the Goa Foundation Director Claude Alvares had mentioned Mr Srinivas Dempo as one of the industrialists from Goa who had Swiss bank accounts.
While the press conference was reported by other publications, our reporter inadvertently and without any malafide intention, incorrectly stated in the report that Mr Dempo was named as one of the industrialists alleged to have off Swiss bank accounts, at the press conference, by Claude Alvares. On the very next day, we retracted and regretted the same.
We further state that the off shoreaccounts referred to in the press conference were a part of a report of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, a Washington-based, pro-transparency NGO. Mr Srinivas Dempo’s name was not on that list either.
Therefore, as a responsible publication which prides itself on the highest standards of editorial integrity, we tender an unqualified and unconditional apology to Mr Srinivas Dempo.
