PONDA: Former South Goa MP Ramakant Angle has expressed displeasure as the State’s first bio-mass gasifier plant installed at Ponda crematorium under MPLAD fund has been dismantled after it was lying unused since the day it was installed a decade ago.
According to information, the bio-mass gasifier was installed at Ponda Municipal Council’s (PMC) crematorium in 2003 under MPLAD fund during the tenure of former South Goa MP Angle.
According to information, during the trial run, a corpse did not burn to ashes and there were reports that people were not ready to utilize the machine to perform final rites. As a result, the machine remained unused and the previous municipal council eventually decided to dismantle the machine.
“It’s shocking to know that PMC dismantled the bio-mass gasifier without putting it to use. The reason behind having such a machine was to save wood and it was eco-friendly. The machine could have been used to cremate unclaimed corpses,” Angle told reporters on the sidelines of an event in the city.
