PANJIM: The Association Of All Goa Muslim Jamat (AOAGMJ) has rejected the Citizenship Amendment Act and demanded its immediate revocation in the interest of the nation.
A press note issued by AOAGMJ says, “The people of India have been protesting on the streets across the country against the Citizenship Act, 2019. The North Eastern States especially are vehemently opposing it and have rejected it. Many sections of the Indian Society have expressed their displeasure over the Act and have been protesting it.”
The AOAGMJ says that the CAA violates Article 14, 15 and 21 and is communal division and regressive as it includes a religious test for granting citizenship. “It will change the unity and plural nature of India. CAA combined with NRC will create mistrust and damage the social fabric of India,” it says.
Stating that the CAA has damaged the image of the nation worldwide, AOAGMJ says the Muslims in India have been very patient in the recent past and its leadership has shown great maturity in the light of repeated provocations.
“The Muslims have demonstrated their patience in wake of repeated hate speeches by Parliamentarians, Legislators and others. None of these individuals faced any legal action for spreading hate against Muslims,” the release states. Further, AOAGMJ says the CAA and NRC will have far reaching consequences and the Muslims of India who rejected the two nation theory and stayed back in India understand the potential damage it can cause.
