PANJIM: Stating that there was nothing to worry for minorities on the Citizenship Amendment Act, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, BJP National spokesperson and former union minister on Wednesday claimed that the Congress was behind the Jamia and Aligarh University violence.
Addressing press conference here, Hussain said that the CAA is to give citizenship and not to take away.
“The Congress which lost elections miserably is now trying to fire from the shoulders of Muslims and student community. The Congress Party was responsible for Jamia and Aligarh University violence,” he said.
Speaking on the police violence against students, he said, “The police have not acted against any students but only the people who created trouble under the guise of being students.”
Further, Hussain said that India is one of the safest countries for the minorities in the world.
“We have oldest church, oldest mosque. Congress is playing politics of their ego. Congress has no issue. They are just playing with one issue of Citizenship Amendment Act,” he added.
Hussain said that many of those who are protesting don’t even know why they are protesting.
Explaining CAA, he said that the countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh are harassing the people from Hindu, Christian, Parsi and Sikh faiths. “Even today Christian girls are sold to China in Pakistan. When such people come to India, we have to give them citizenship,” he added.
The BJP leader said that in the entire country, the confusion is being created that the CAA is against Muslims.
“I would like to insist that no Muslim would be thrown out of India. Prime Minister has already made it clear that Muslims need not be afraid in India. Similarly, Home Minister Amit Shah has clarified that CAA is not against any minority community,” he said.
