The foundation stone for the Taluka Level Sports Complex at Nanus, Valpoi was laid in March 2007, with an estimated project cost of Rs 4.38 crore to be undertaken by the PWD. The work included construction of multipurpose hall, lobby, toilets, shops, library, stores, VIP rooms, hall, gym, changing room, lockers, RCC seats stand for 103 mts, hill side cutting, development of playground by laying good earth and lawn, construction of swimming pool and construction of compound wall.
Prabhu claims that only the hill cutting has been completed and payment of Rs 28.82 lakh made to Kamaxi Inf Construction from Old Goa.
“ln 2012 turf lawn work by MM Naik Construction Co stopped; however, bill amount paid is Rs 28.87 lakh. In 2013 the PWD Valpoi submitted a report to director of sports,” said Prabhu in the memorandum.
He said the sport project was important since it was the only facility for the youth of the rural area of Sattari. “The gym building in Valpoi is not maintained and has been closed. The municipal ground has never been upgraded even after many appeals.
