The market vendors’ leader Kishore Mamlekar said the vendors had approached the High Court earlier as they did not agree to the exorbitant sopo rates finalised by PMC for 2014-15. The court directed the DMA to hear their petition and pass a judgement. The DMA passed an order that the PMC should collect sopo fees at Rs 6 per sq mts in the open market areas and Rs 12 per sq mts in the market shed.
Mamlekar said thatthey will once again approach the High Court, but this time against the DMA’s order.
He said the vendors were firm on Rs 5 per sq mts as sopo tax and that they were against auctioning of sopo contract as it exploited the vendors. The PMC had recently decided to auction the sopo collection for 2015-2016.
Mamlekar added that the vendors would agitate on Tuesday if PMC failed to get rid of the footpath vendors at the market.
