The investigating officer in the police-drug cartel nexus probe has refused to tag the missing drug peddler an absconder. Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Salgaonkar though admitted that Atala violated his bail conditions put forth by the NDPS Court.
“We cannot call him an absconder…he may emerge tomorrow… Crime Branch team searched him at the available address at Porvorim on August 9 but he could not be located. He has violated the Court orders wherein apart from other conditions he was asked to intimate respective authorities on any change of address”, he said.
The Court has been informed on the latest. Atala last appeared before the Crime Branch team on July 4 after which he failed to respond to police summons.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravindra Yadav said we are ascertaining the facts and will take appropriate action.
