PANJIM: Days after O Heraldo published a report along with a supportive picture highlighting how raw sewage was flowing in a trench near Madhuban circle in St Inez, raising a stink and posing a health hazard in the area, the authorities concerned on Friday fixed the damaged sewer line and also restored the said road stretch.
After O Heraldo’s reportage, the authorities concerned including the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) officials swung into action. The Smart City Mission appointed contractor was directed to take required corrective measures to stop the flow of the raw sewage in the trench and to restore the stretch to ensure pedestrians safety.

It is pertinent to note that the particular trench was dug up to construct drains and to lay utility lines, however, in view of the monsoon, the site had been demolished and was abandoned by the contractor concerned.
People having commercial establishments along the particular road stretch were worst affected as their customers were shying away due to unbearable stench. The locals in the area had also expressed fear of an outbreak of vector-borne diseases.
