Bag, shoes give anxious moments

A bag containing a school uniform of a girl student and footwear near the Khareband bridge on Tuesday gave some anxious moments for citizens and the men-in-uniform.
As news spread that girl student has ended her life by jumping in the River Sal near the Khareband bridge, the Margao police rushed to the spot and took possession of the bag containing the uniform and the footwear.
Margao PI Santosh Desai informed that the incident occurred this morning when a passerby found the bag with the uniform and footwear hanging on a tree.
‘No sooner the police were informed of the matter, a police team was sent to the spot. As there were suspicions that a girl might have committed a suicide, we maintained a close look at the river, but found nothing suspicious”, he said.
PI Desai said that as a matter of abundant precaution, the police have approached the management of the city-based school to find out whether any student has gone missing or has not reported for school in recent days.
“Based on the colour of the uniform, we have approached the school for details just to rule out the possibility of anything suspicious”, PI Desai added.
Sources in the know said a delegation of the school management had visited the police station and clarified that none of the school students are missing.
