Seeks impartial inquiry into Nadia’s death

Women’s organisation Bailancho Ekvott on Wednesday demanded that Chief Minister drop Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco from the Cabinet and order an impartial inquiry into the Nadia Torrado death episode.
In another related development, women activists under the leadership of Tara Kerkar called on Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Wednesday noon and submitted a memorandum demanding a thorough probe.
Addressing a press conference, Auda Viegas raised a host of questions concerning Nadia’s death and demanded that Pacheco be dropped from the Ministry.
She alleged that the dying declaration by Nadia at the Mumbai hospital was given under duress as she was too ill and critical to give any statement at that time.
Referring to the dying declaration of the Nadia that she had mistakenly consumed the poisonous substance, Viegas said “when ratol enters your mouth, you spit it out. Nobody would keep ratol near the toothpaste and nobody would consume full tube of ratol by mistake”.
She demanded to know where exactly the ratol consuming incident had taken place and the delay in shifting Nadia to the hospital.
When newsmen drew her attention to the plea made by the Torrado’s to leave the family alone and have questioned the NGOs for their role in the episode, Viegas said everyone should know that there is something known as the law of the land.
Colva Panch Calvert Gonsalves, who was present for the press briefing, said the police should seize the mobile of the Tourism Minister to get deep insight into the alleged SMS sent to various people.
Meanwhile, women’s activist Tara Kerkar led women to the residence of the Chief Minister to demand an impartial inquiry into Nadia’s death.
She said her NGO is not involved in politics and acting as per the directions of the government as alleged by the family, adding that NGOs have taken up various issues affecting women of the State.
Replying to a question, she said the Chief Minister maintained that the inquiry into the case is underway and that the law will take its own course.
The Chief Minister told newsmen that he has already told the media that he would not interfere in the case as that would be construed as trying to make an opinion in the case.
