VASCO: Yet another cash-for-government-job scam case has been unearthed, this time in Baina, where a woman and her son were arrested by the Vasco police for allegedly duping a Chimbel resident of Rs 6 lakh on the pretext of providing a police constable’s job.

The police gave the name of the accused as Uma Patil and her son Shivam, both residing at Zuari Complex, Baina. The accused cheated Rashmi Vinod Chopdekar of Rs 6 lakh after promising a constable’s job to her son. The police also seized vehicles belonging to the accused.
The incident occurred on November 21, 2021, at Vasco, during which both the accused promised Rashmi to provide a job in the State Police Department for her son, but failed to fulfil their promise.
After receiving the money, both the accused cheated the complainant as they failed to provide the job and did not return the money.
A case has been registered against Uma and her son Shivam under Sections 420 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code. PSI Palto Carvalho is conducting further investigation under the guidance of Vasco PI Kapil Nayak and overall guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
Meanwhile, the Panjim Police booked a city resident for allegedly cheating a Nadorawadi resident of Rs 10.35 lakh for securing him a government job.
According to the police, Arjun Dessai (45) lodged a complaint stating that in 2018 in different months the accused identified as Deepashree Prashant Mhato alias Deepashree Sawant, a native of Nadora, currently residing in Panjim, cheated him under the pretext of providing government job in Directorate of Accounts and received cash of Rs 10,35,000 on different occasions.
An offence under section 420 of IPC has been registered and the case is being investigated by PSI Rohan Nageshkar of Panjim Police Station.
