PONDA: Bandora Sarpanch Ramchandra Naik appealed to the government to make Bandora Village Panchayat as Open Defecation Free (ODF) and also to solve electricity and garbage problems.
He said, “There are 225 villagers who have applied for toilet facilities under government scheme. Under this scheme, general category requires to pay fee of Rs 10,000, OBC Rs 5,000 and ST and SC Rs 2,500 respectively. We have collected around Rs 1.85 lakh to provide toilets but they are not provided yet and people are constantly contacting us asking for a toilet.”
“So I appeal to the government to solve this problem urgently by providing toilets to needy people,” he added.
Regarding non-functioning of streetlights, Ramchandra informed that Electricity Department neither allows to purchase the material nor the contractor appointed to repair the streetlights come for maintenance on time causing hardship to the locals in the night.
“There are also frequent power supply breakdowns,” he said.
He said, “Panchayat spends money and collect the garbage but still there are some people who come for morning walk are dumping garbage at roadside, while on other hand Pollution Control Board is warning of putting fines to panchayat for garbage black spot in the area.”
“Government should provide panchayat a space for garbage collection and treatment,” he added.
