BELGAUM: Residents of Auto Nagar area in Belgaum have strongly opposed two cold storages cum slaughter houses in the area, which supplies majority of the beef to Goa.
Residents from Kanbargi, Autonagar and neighbouring areas on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner urging the district administration not to renew the licenses of these houses.
The residents have complained of unbearable stink in the area due to the waste water released by both the cold storage houses.
“Moreover, due to the existence of a number of temples in the vicinity, many devotees keep visiting the area. Thus, these slaughter houses are causing nuisance and disturbing the religious sentiments of the people,” states the memorandum.
“Apart from adversely affecting the hygiene in the locality, presence of these cold storages is also hurting the ethnic sentiments of the residents. Hence authorities should not renew their license and initiate steps to shift them from the residential area,” stated R S Chandargi who was heading the residents who submitted the memorandum.
