Woman accuses hubby of assault
PORVORIM: A woman has accused her husband of abusing and assaulting her in Mapusa. According to Mapusa Police, the victim woman complained that her husband, who is not in good terms with her, intentionally harassed and abused her, thereby insulting her modesty. The woman further stated that the accused husband assaulted her, causing injuries and also threatened her with dire consequences to kill and forcibly sexual abused her. Pole held for overstaying
CALANGUTE: Calangute Police on Wednesday arrested a Polish national on charges of illegally staying in the country without valid visa. According to Calangute Police, Urszula Barbara Jagoda, presently residing at Sawtawada-Calangute, was arrested for illegally staying in India without her valid visa. PSI Satish Gaude is investigating.
Shirgao local, mom threatened
BICHOLIM: A resident of Wadachawada-Shirgao has accused six persons of abusing and threatening him and his mother at Wadachawada. According to Bicholim Police, Babi Gaonkar of Wadachawada-Shirgao complained that the six accused persons trespassed into his house, abused him and threatened him and his mother with dire consequences to kill. Head Constable Disha Mapari is investigating the case.
Gaondongrim local found dead
CANACONA: The body of a 56-year-old resident of Ziltawadi-Gaondongrim was found near a village river on Wednesday. According to Canacona Police, Ram Gaonkar was reported missing from Tuesday and some people noticed his body lying at a nearby river early Wednesday morning. Sources informed that people normally goes to wash their clothes, where the body was found. Police sent the body for post-mortem and later handed it over to the family members, who cremated it on Wednesday evening, sources informed. Canacona Police registered an unnatural death and is investigating the case.
Body recovered from River Zuari
MARGAO: The Maina-Curtorim police on May recovered a dead body of a male that was found floating in the River Zuari. The deceased was later identified as Umesh Satyadev Nisar, aged 46 years, native of Uttar Pradesh who was residing in Curtorim. A case of unnatural death under section 174 CrPC has been registered and PSI P Velip is inquiring.
Motorcycle stolen at Ravanfond
MARGAO: Shrikant Parshuram Audi, resident of Aquem Baixo-Margao complained that on April 15-16 between 9 pm and 8 am at Ravanfond-Margao, some unknown accused persons committed theft of his Pulsar motorcycle GA-08-W-9906, worth Rs 88,000 from open parking place at Ravanfond. As he failed to trace the vehicle after a hunt Audi filed a complaint with police. An offence of theft against unknown culprit under section 379 IPC has been registered and further investigation is being conducted by HC P R Manjarekar.
Kidnap accused arrested
MARGAO: Maina-Curtorim police on Thursday arrested one Kuddul Khan, 20, hailing from Uttar Pradesh staying at Dicarpali-Davorlim under section 41 CrPC who was wanted by Dabri police station, South West Delhi in a case of kidnapping of a minor girl. The accused was wanted by Dabri police who have registered a case of kidnapping a minor girl over a month back, under Section 363 of IPC and had been staying at Dicarpali for the last one moth with the minor. The minor girl who was along with accused Khan has been admitted at Apna Ghar, Merces.
Railway police register theft case
MARGAO: Konkan Railway police upon complaint filed on May 28 by Kavita Ramchandra Borkar, resident of Kalyan East-Mumbai have registered offence of theft under section 379 IPC against unknown person who took away her purse containing cash Rs 10,000, gold ornaments, Nikon camera, Nokia mobile, etc all worth Rs 1,21,100. According to KR police, some unknown persons committed theft of her purse containing cash of Rs10,000, Nokia mobile phone, gold Mangalsutra, gold bracelet, ring and pair of earrings, Nikon camera etc all worth over Rs 1.21 lakh. Further investigation is being carried by ASI U S Naik of KR police station, Margao.
Navodaya’s entrance test on June 22
CANACONA: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyala (JNV) Canacona will conduct selection test for admission to Std 9 on June 22. JNV Canacona Principal S Kannan stated that the admission selection test for Std 9 will be purely based on merit and present Std 8 students can apply on or before June 10.
Consumer Shoppee opens in Panjim
PANJIM: ‘Consumer Shoppee’ exhibition of consumer and household products which is being held at Don Bosco High School, Panjim was inaugurated on Thursday by Mahesh Adavalpalkar (Renowned builder), Chief Guest Jyoti Adavalpalkar, Ujwala Tarkar and various company representatives were present for the inaugural function. More than 60 reputed companies are exhibiting their products in the six-day long exhibition. The exhibition is open to the public from 10 am to 8 pm.
Toddy tappers institute scholarship
PANJIM: The All Goa Toddy Tappers’ Association President Gaspar Afonso has instituted a scholarship to be awarded to the top ranking students of the toddy tappers community of Goa. The students securing 50 per cent and above marks in SSC and HSSC (12th) Exam of Goa Board may produce certified copy of the mark-sheets to the village toddy tapper leaders before June 10. The top ranking students thereafter will be selected for the scholarship.
Saraswat school secures 94% at SSC
PANJIM: Saraswat Vidyalaya High School, Khorlim-Mapusa, secured 94.07 per cent results in the recently held SSC board exam. Rahul Thali secured 95.33%, followed by Parsekar Vivekanand (93.83%) and Kamat Prerana (93%).
In all, 116 students appeared for the exam, out of which 40 students got distinction, followed by first class (42), second class (26) and pass class (19).
