Residents of Benaulim have called upon the village panchayat to reject any construction proposals that exceed 60 per cent Floor Area Ratio (FAR), citing increasing pressure on the village’s basic infrastructure.
Speaking at the gram sabha meeting, villagers said that Benaulim’s water supply, road network and garbage management systems are already under strain and would be unable to cope with further high-density development.
Members reminded the panchayat about an earlier gram sabha resolution that fixed the village’s development density at VP2 levels, which restricts FAR to 60 per cent. They insisted that this resolution must be strictly implemented.
Participants also expressed concern over recent projects that were allegedly granted special permissions for higher FAR and additional building height. They demanded a clarification from the panchayat on how such approvals were issued and urged authorities to ensure transparency and adherence to existing norms.
