Colvale police have registered a case after a resident of Thivim was allegedly cheated of ₹3.95 lakh by an accused who posed as a CRPF officer and expressed interest in renting the complainant’s flat in Margao.
According to police, the accused contacted the complainant claiming to be a CRPF personnel looking for accommodation. Gaining the victim’s trust, the accused allegedly convinced him to carry out certain phone-banking transactions, under the pretext of completing formalities related to the rental process.

The complainant later realised that he had been tricked into transferring a total of ₹3.95 lakh to the accused. Following the complaint, Colvale police registered an FIR and have launched an investigation to trace the accused and recover the amount.
Police have advised citizens to remain cautious while dealing with unknown persons online or over phone, especially in matters involving financial transactions.
