Bengal Man Sentenced to 13 Years for Killing Father and Son in Waqf Act Violence

A court in Murshidabad, West Bengal, on Tuesday sentenced 13 people to life imprisonment for lynching a father and son during protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act in April.

The fast-track court in Jangipur also ordered the state to pay Rs 15 lakh in compensation to the victims’ family.

Haragobinda Das (72) and his son Chandan Das (42) were attacked by a mob at their home in Jafrabad under Samserganj police station on April 12.

The court had convicted the 13 accused on Monday, following violent protests in the district from April 8 to 12 after the Act’s passage.
