PORVORIM: The State government will introduce a Bill in the House to streamline the process of land conversion from Agriculture to non-Agriculture purpose, providing major relief to the construction sector, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

Sawant said that a Bill will be introduced during the ongoing session to streamline the conversion process, including issuance of Sanads and fee structure, which will help the construction sector as well as the common man.
The issue was raised during Question Hour, wherein the Leader of Opposition, Digambar Kamat, pointed out that due to the amendment made to Land Revenue Code in 2016, wherein Sanads which are normally issued for conversion from Agriculture to non-Agriculture, were issued based on zonal change, the construction sector is facing serious problems.
He informed House that for the issuance of Sanad, the applicants are charged rates based on zone changes and thereafter the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department and concerned planning and development authorities (PDAs), also charge fees based on similar structure.
“This is duplication. The construction sector is facing serious problems due to this,” Kamat said.
Responding to the same, Revenue Minister Jeniffer Monserrate said that the department is in the process to simplify the procedure and necessary directions have been issued to the Revenue officials.
In yet another postponed question related to maintenance grants to Schools tabled by MGP MLA Ramakrishna Sudin Dhavalikar, the CM assured the House to release the second installment of the grants before March 31.
