In a significant development in the Birch by Romeo Lane fire investigation, Goa Police have detained another key accused, Ajay Gupta, from New Delhi. The tragic blaze at the Arpora nightclub claimed 25 lives—including staff and tourists—marking one of North Goa’s worst fire disasters in recent years.
A Look Out Circular (LOC) had been issued against Gupta soon after the incident. When investigators visited his Delhi residence earlier, he was found absconding, prompting authorities to obtain a formal arrest warrant. He has now been taken into custody in the national capital.
According to police sources, Ajay Gupta is allegedly associated with the Luthra brothers, the promoters of Romeo Lane, and is believed to have played a role in the operations linked to the nightclub.
The fire, which exposed severe lapses in safety compliance across entertainment venues, has led to multiple detentions and a wide-ranging probe. Goa Police continue to track down remaining suspects as part of the ongoing investigation, which aims to establish accountability and identify all individuals responsible for the violations that contributed to the tragedy.
