MARGAO: A nine-member ruling group of Margao Municipal Council led by former Chairperson Arthur D’Silva has extended their support to BJP candidate Narendra Sawaikar.
The group pledged their support in Margao on Wednesday at a joint media conference with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Parrikar welcomed the support of the MMC Councillors saying it will strengthen the hands of the BJP government. Members of the ruling group included Gonzaco Rebello, who was once considered the strong supporter of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai. Another Vijai’s supporter Joseph Silva was also a part of the delegation that called on the Chief Minister to pledge support to Sawaikar’s candidature. In his address, Arthur said that the group has come together to support the BJP given the impressive performance of the Parrikar government. He said election of the South Goa candidate would help strengthen the Parrikar government in implementing various schemes for the people. Welcoming the support of the MMC councillors, the Chief Minister said that the decision of the ruling group will certainly help in the success of the party candidate.
