Goa MLA Venzy Viegas has criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government, alleging that it has turned into a “conversion government” due to the number of opposition legislators who later joined the party.
Viegas claimed that after the 2017 Assembly elections, as many as 10 MLAs from the Indian National Congress were converted to the BJP. He further alleged that a similar trend continued after the 2022 Assembly elections, when eight MLAs shifted to the ruling party.
The AAP legislator said such political developments raise serious questions about the functioning of democracy and the stability of the opposition in the state.
His remarks come amid ongoing political debates in Goa over defections and party alignments within the state Assembly.
