BORIM: Subsequent to the move by its allies, the Ponda block of Bhartiya Janata Party on Saturday launched the day-long relief fund drive for the Uttarakhand flood-hit victims.
It was noticed that people were reluctant to help this time round, as a week ago the MGP members had moved around in the city raising funds for the same cause and had collected around Rs 48,785. Many people had claimed at that time itself that they had already contributed to the cause.
President of Goa State Law Commission Adv Narendra Sawaikar, PMC Deputy Chairperson and president of BJP Ponda Block Shantaram Kolvekar, PMC Councillors Vishwanata Dallavi, Sunil Desai and Shanti Naik, Adv Manohar Adpaikar and other supporters of BJP moved in the city appealing to the people to lend their help for the cause.
Speaking to Herald, Adv Narendra Sawaikar said the Goa desk of the BJP had decided to launch this drive to help and to rebuild Uttarakhand.
“We appeal to the people of Goa to donate generously. An account has been opened in Corporation Bank at Panjim. People can hand over cheques to BJP office bearers or at BJP office in Panjim,” he said.
When contacted, Kolvekar said they continued the drive till Saturday evening and that they would hand over the money collected in the drive to their party office.
