PANJIM: With former chief minister Manohar Parrikar in New Delhi, politics in Goa took a surprising turn with the Bharatiya Janata Party taking on its own government for inefficiency and broken promises.
The Party’s Taleigao unit has written to the PWD Principal Chief Engineer D J S Borkar threatening that in case the roads leading in and out of Taleigao are not repaired before November 30, they would block all the roads. The BJP’s alliance partner – the MGP – has been allocated the PWD portfolio with Ramkrishna Dhavalikar holding the portfolio in the Laxmikant Parsekar government.
The letter, signed by BJP Taleigao mandal president Dattaprasad Naik, says that the roads, such as the one from St Inez Branco junction to Caculo Mall to Syndicate Bank, Caranzalem; bypass road from Madhuban complex to the Taleigao community hall, TB Hospital, Shankarwadi, Cardoz waddo, from Ram temple to Almaral waddo; from Navelkar’s house to Our Lady of Rosary church, Caranzalem; and from Babal store to Quevnem–Justa hotel and internal roads are in a pathetic state after they were dug up due to the sewerage work and have still not been repaired.
Stating that the PWD Minister Dhavalikar had promised on the floor of the House during the monsoon session that the hot mixing of the roads would start by November 15, the BJP has said that, what has started are only cosmetic repairs and not proper hot mixing.
“Residents of Panjim have now run out of patience as they feel they are being taken for granted,” says the letter by Dattaprasad Naik.
It may be recalled that the husband and wife duo of Atanasio and Jennifer Monserrate had attacked Dhavalikar for the pathetic state of the roads in Taleigao for the past almost two years. The then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had promised to personally supervise the road works. With Parrikar’s exit, till date the road repair work has not started.
Patch work with laterite stones and mud has been done to fill up the potholes.
