The Dabolim International Airport was put on high alert late Monday evening, following a call to the authorities. that a bomb was placed on board a Russian charter flight ‘Azur Airways’. The flight was scheduled to arrive in Goa with 244 passengers from Moscow. However, no suspicious items were found on the Moscow-Goa flight, which was diverted, to Gujarat’s Jamnagar, after the hoax call. The National Security Guard (NSG) carried out an extensive search of the plane and the luggage it was carrying, sources said.
Following the call, security was beefed up in and around the Dabolim International Airport with the deployment of a massive police force. Top officials of the Goa Police and airport authorities immediately held a high-level meeting, to ascertain the credentials of the caller. Other agencies such as ATS, CISF, fire service and the bomb squad were activated to take care of any adverse situation.
