There is no Mopa. There is only one airport – Dabolim. Because the Navy is going to shift to Belgaum. The main naval base for Karwar is Belgaum. Goa cannot be a naval airport. Navy will only keep a squadron of helicopters here. But installation will be under defence.
If Mopa comes, then next day they will close Dabolim down. Nobody will come in the way. Not even the Prime Minister will come in the way, let alone (chief minister) Manohar Parrikar.
The Romesh Chandra Committee had said that airports are not allowed within 150 kms of each other. When the rule is enforced how can Manmohan Singh approve PPP for Goa unless the rule is changed? From Dabolim, Mopa is 45 kms as the bird flies. From Mopa to Chipi it is 43 kms.
That airport (Chipi) is going to be inaugurated. The Mopa airport is just impossible. It is a theatre of the absurd. That is basically a land scam. I don’t think any airport will come up there. If Parrikar wants it to come, then Mopa is a real estate hoax.
