VASCO: After a smooth flight to Goa, the tourists arriving in the State are welcomed with bumpy drive along the pothole ridden airport junction road which is located right opposite to Dabolim International airport, giving a bad image to the state, besides posing high risks to road users.
The deteriorating condition of the airport junction (from Chicalim side) has left residents of different areas of Mormugao taluka irked and upset. Criticizing the PWD authorities concerned for not ensuring repair of the pothole-ridden portion of airport junction road, the locals have called upon PWD officials to look into the matter and ensure early repair of potholes.
“We have been facing severe problems as huge potholes have developed right on the airport junction and if two-wheeler riders are not careful, the danger is imminent. Though the road from Chicalim junction up to Dabolim airport is in bad shape, the problem is acute at the airport junction road which has become a death trap,” said Sarfraj Ahmed, a Vasco resident.
“What is more surprising is that though this road is used by tourists after they arrive in Goa and by large number of locals, still the authorities have neglected this road,” Sarfraj lamented.
“These pothole-ridden road near airport junction is an embarrassment for the State. We do not know why the authorities failed to repair this busy road. Since this road has developed potholes and depressions, it has now become difficult not only to ride and drive but also to walk on this stretch,” said Sandeep Patel, a Dabolim based businessman.
