MARGAO: An outrage of people over the deplorable conditions of the major roads of Margao and suburbs is seen all over social media.
People have posted photos of roads which were tarred earlier this year but have got washed off in rains in just two months. Roads near Gogol, Ravanfond, Navelim, Railway Station, Vidyanagar have got deteriorated to such an extent that a person can hardly drive through the roads.
Sanjay Dessai, vice principal of Damodar College took to his Facebook page against potholed roads. He wrote, “Faulty design, poor road engineering and absence of drains are main reasons for bad roads in Goa during monsoon. We have Dhavlikar as PWD minister for almost last 15 years, is he not responsible for putting our lives in dander on roads?”
Some people have reacted to the problem of bad roads. “The government spends so much (money) on roads, so, why do they go bad with a couple of heavy showers? No accountability, no responsibility. The ones who are given such work and whose tenders are accepted should be put in jail,” said an angry commuter.
“Unfortunately, no government department considers storm water drainage while working for the road projects. We are spending huge amount of money on repair work but nobody is bothered about the disposal of rain water,” said a college student.
“This is the state of roads in Goa during rainy season. Nothing changes; same roads, same people, same criticism, same minister, same fresh tenders, no penalties and same corruption. What changes is our age,” said a disgusted citizen from Margao.
