VASCO: Vasco police on Thursday busted a sex racket operating from a beauty parlour at New Vaddem in Vasco and rescued an 18-year-old girl. The beauty parlour operator was also arrested.
Acting on tip off, a team of Vasco police led by PI Nolasco Raposo laid a trap and arrested the accused Tabassum Shaikh (28), resident of New Vaddem.
Police said that the accused woman was caught red-handed while delivering the girl to the decoy customer near government school in New Vaddem. Police investigation has revealed that the rescued girl hails from Karnataka and was residing at New Vaddem.
“The accused woman was arrested at the spot while accepting cash of Rs 10,000 by the rescue team which had followed in another vehicle,” PI Nolasco Raposo said.
“Our investigation has revealed that the accused woman runs two beauty parlours, one at New Vaddem and another near Vasco Church. During interrogation in presence of NGO, the victim girl gave a detailed statement that she was induced by the accused into the prostitution,” he said.
The rescued girl has been referred to the protective home at Merces after obtaining order from SDM. An offence has been registered against the accused woman under Section 4, 5 & 7 of Immoral Traffic (prevention) Act 1956.
