MARGAO: Burglars continued to make merry along Salcete’s coastal belt coming under the Colva police jurisdiction. Close on the heels of the spate of burglaries in Benaulim, burglars struck at Colva in fourth ward, last night, successfully decamping with gold ornaments valued Rs 3 lakh and cash of Rs 10,000 from a residential house along the main Colva-Betalbatim road.
The incident occurred last night when the burglars effected entry into the house by removing the roof tiles. They are believed to have climbed the roof top with the help of a ladder. The burglars ransacked the bedroom and managed to lay their hands on gold ornaments, including gold chains, two pair of earrings, bracelet, besides cash of Rs 10,000 and 50 US Dollars.
An inmate of the house Caron Rodrigues said that she and her mother were sleeping inside the house when the burglars made their entry inside. The incident came to light at around 6.15 am when her mother woke up, only to find the roof tiles of the kitchen missing. Their worst fears came true when they found the three cupboards in the bedroom ransacked the valuables missing.
The police pressed into service a sniffer dog and finger print expert, but could not succeed in obtaining any clues.
