MARGAO:  A burglary at Mugalli in Sao Jose de Areal village has triggered outrage on Sunday as the locality witnessed a third major burglary and a murder in the last one year.
Burglars targeted the bungalow of Vishnu Das Naik Parsekar last night as they effected entry into the house through the rear door.
The miscreants are believed to have first made an abortive attempt to break open the main door, but in vain, before they barged inside the house through the rear door.
Once inside, they ransacked the house for the booty, but could not find much, except the watches.
The inmates were out of the house at the time of burglary. Fortunately, the miscreants could not lay their hands on gold and cash.
As news of the burglary spread in the Rainbow Valley locality, the residents called for police patrolling of the entire area as the latest incident comes against the backdrop of the robbery cum murder and a burglary last year.
A resident Shakila Dourado demanded that the police should intensify patrolling in the Mugalli area.
“The area is not adequately illuminated. The police do make their presence felt, but they should move around the area’, she said.
Sao Jose de Areal Sarpanch Julio Monteiro, who visited the spot, said the Panchayat will ask the Maina Curtorim police to intensify patrolling of the Mugalli area.
“As far as illumination is concerned, the Panchayat will place the grievances of the people before the power department since the Panchayat has already utilised the spares”, Julio said.
