Bus drivers avoid Cuncolim bus stand

Prefer to halt buses on the highway and collect or disgorge passengers

CUNCOLIM: It looks like bus drivers are allergic to the well-equipped KTC bus stand in Cuncolim. They park their buses on the National Highway 17 while picking or dropping passengers, due to which the road often gets congested and the possibility of accidents increases. The traffic jams are worse during school hours.
Crores of rupees were spent to construct the bus stand, which is one of the best in India. It even bagged an architectural award at Asia level. However, the buses that run from Margao to Canacona and the local buses that run from Cuncolim to Betul, Balli, Assolna and other places hardly enter the bus stand. Even the buses from Canacona and Karwar do not stop there. As a result, the Kadamba Transport Corporation is losing out on its toll fee.
Cuncolim locals have demanded that the Department of Road and Transport and traffic police take strict action against bus drivers who put the lives of commuters and students at risk. They also demanded that a traffic officer be deputed to the bus stand, especially during school hours.
