Spraying in Colmorod to contain vectors

MARGAO: In the wake of vector borne diseases, specially dengue, being reported all over the State, an awareness cum anti-larvae spraying campaign was organised at Colmorod with the help of the Urban Health centre of Margao.

Urban Health officer, Dr Martha Fernandes explained to the residents the importance of maintaining ones home and surrounding free of breeding grounds for mosquitoes. She also explained to the residents of how we complain about water stagnation somewhere outside, but fail to realise that the deadly mosquito is breeding at home itself, in an unattended small container, etc.
Former Chairperson Savio Coutinho, stated that there is no better cure, than prevention. He stated that the area having a high water table, the waste water in many places overflows into the drains. As such the early completion of the sewerage works will be of immense help to the controlling of these diseases. Coutinho also requested the health officer to direct the spraying team to take signatures of the residents whenever spraying is done to ensure that the exercise is done properly.
Ward Councillor Pratima Coutinho appealed to the residents of the ward to cooperate by thinking about the nuisance that can be caused by the release of water into the drains.
Later the Health officer, Coutinho, ward councillor and the team went around the area and visited certain spots prone to mosquito breeding.
