Bus strike called off

The bus owners have deferred their strike scheduled on September 6 following a meeting with Chief Minister Digambar Kamat in the city here on Sunday.
After the meeting with the chief minister on Sunday, North Goa Bus Owners Association President Sudip Tamankar said the proposed strike has been called off following assurances that all their pending issues will be addressed at a joint meeting on September 27.
“After the Chief Minister assured that our grievances will be looked into by the government, we have decided to defer Monday’s strike”, Tamankar said, warning that the bus owners would go on a strike on October 1 if nothing concrete comes out of the joint meeting scheduled on September 27. “If the government again stabs us in the back, we will go ahead with the strike on October 1”, he warned.
Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat told newsmen after the meeting with the bus operators that the September 27 joint meeting will address all pending issues highlighted by the operators. “The Director of Transport has briefed me in detail on the issues raised by the bus operators. The joint meeting with the KTC and the bus owners will discuss all issues”, Kamat said, adding that he would ask the transport minister to sit and resolve the matter if the September 27 meeting fails to resolve all issues. “If the September 27 meeting comes out with a solution on the pending issues, it will be well and good. Otherwise, I will ask the transport minister to find a way out to the problem”, Kamat added.
