Goa tourism ministry will hand over the tar balls collected from various beaches to an oil refinery.
Talking on the sidelines of NCP’s press conference, tourism minister Nilkanth Halarnkar told Herald that truckloads of tar balls will make their way to refineries very soon adding that no decision has been taken regarding the refinery.
It may be recalled that tar balls which had surfaced on many beaches in South Goa since Monday evening continued hitting the shore till Sunday.
Halarnkar said that tar ball appear on Goan beaches annually but this year, the quantum of oil slick was more.
The minister said that tar ball menace will not affect the tourism season. “We will clear all beaches before the season,” he said.
He said that a ship which had ventured off Goa coast allegedly released burnt oil in the mid sea.
