Principal says it wasn’t their decision; 509 have taken forms
MARGAO: With the Chowgule Education Society finally agreeing to open on-line admissions for XI Science and Arts streams from Thursday, the fate of the 509 students who had taken admissions forms from the Education Department, Margao, in the last two days, hangs in balance.
If Chowgule HSS Principal Dr R V Gaonkar is to be believed, the Chowgule higher secondary will go by the on-line system for admissions to XI Science and Arts streams.

When his attention was drawn to the admission process started by the Education Department yesterday, Gaonkar said, “I don’t know what the Education Department has done. That was not our decision. We are not part of the decision to issue admission forms to the students at the Education Department,” he asserted.
When pointed out that the government had maintained that the ongoing admission process would be handed over to the Chowgule HSS if the institute agrees to open admissions, Gaonkar said, “We have a system in place wherein admissions are done online. This is a procedure followed by the Chowgule HSS. It takes just 5-10 minutes to make admissions online.”
Incidentally, while a total of 509 students ~ 406 for Science and 103 for Arts ~ have obtained admissions from the Education Department, the principal said the HS will restrict its admissions for Science stream to last year’s figure of around 130 students.
