CALANGUTE: Speaking about the alleged pre-planned destruction of the State and coastal belt by the government, Calangute Constituency Forum has demanded that the government stops the massive destruction of greenery in the name of development.

It alleged that the government has played to destroy all the hills from Sinqerim, Baga, Anjuna and Parra by concretizing them.
“Government declared ODP for Parra and has marked a garbage plant on the Parra hill without obtaining NOC from the communidade of Parra and the NGPDA is planning to destroy the greenery of Parra hill. Also after we objected to Baga hill development, the authorities are now trying to get access to the Baga hill through the Anjuna hill. Around 70 to 80 trees on the Sinquerim hill have been destroyed under the nose of the authorities who are not ready to take action even after complaining,” said President of Calangute Constituency Forum Premanand Diukar.
He added that the forum, in association with people of Anjuna, Baga, Calangute, Pilerne are going to fight against this destruction of hills by the government.
“These hills are lungs of the coastal belt which further act as sponge to conserve the rain water”, Diukar added. He also alleged that the government is violating various laws in force such as the Environment Protection Act, Forest Conservation Act, and Biodiversity Conservation Act. The forum further condemned the government authorities such as the Conservator of Forest, GCZMA, TCP, PDA and Dome department for being inefficient.
The Forum also condemned the government’s decision to spend crores of rupees from public funds to celebrate the liberation day of Goa at a time when Goans are not getting basic services and Goa is need of infrastructural development.
