Calangute murder case: Woman was strangled to death, say police

CALANGUTE: Deodita Fernandes, the 64-year-old woman from Karaswada, Mapusa, who was found dead in a flat in Naikawaddo, Calangute, on Thursday, died due to strangulation, according to the post-mortem report. 

Calangute police have registered an offence of murder against unknown persons. No arrests have been made so far.

Her body had been found in suspicious circumstances late on Thursday night. 

Fernandes had come to her flat on the third floor of a building named Benson in Naikawaddo on Thursday afternoon in connection with painting the place.

When she did not return home till late in the evening and did not take any of her calls, her sister informed the caretaker of the flat. The caretaker reached the flat late in the night and found the door of the flat locked.

When the caretaker opened the door of the flat using a duplicate key, he found Deodita Fernandes lying dead in the dining hall. Her purse and mobile phone were found missing.

Late on Friday Calangute police registered a case of murder and robbery.  Further investigations are on.
