CALANGUTE: The Calangute police on Monday arrested a Karnataka native for a theft at a bungalow at Gaura vaddo, Calangute, reported on November 16.
The stolen items valued at Rs 3.25 lakh consisting of three high-end laptops, a watch and Rs 25,000 in domestic and foreign currency have been recovered.
An Australian tourist, Ashley, was staying in the house, Casa Das Imras Villa, along with his family, Calangute police said. The accused, identified as DM Santosha, 27, a resident of Shimoga, Karnataka, allegedly took advantage of the fact that the tourist’s family was not present in the villa at midnight and decamped the property.
The police were able to identify the suspect with the help of CCTV footage from the villa’s premises, which showed the suspect’s face. A dedicated Calangute police team worked closely with Karnataka police to apprehend the accused.
The accusedhas a history of committing thefts across the country, has been remanded in police custody for further investigation.
