Suspect foul play, demand second autopsy

PANJIM: Unhappy with police investigations into the death of a man from Calvim-Aldona, family members and residents have refused to accept the body from the mortuary at GMC Hospital.
Suspecting foul play into the death of Sidonio (Sidney) D’Cruz, who died under mysterious circumstances on November 29, Aldona Panch Freddy Pontes and friends have claimed that though D’Cruz had died from an estimated 40 wounds, the police had been half-hearted in their approach while dealing with the case.
“A friend and I had applied for a second panchanama. The Mapusa police had assured me that a police official would intimate me about the proceedings, but nothing has been done,” Pontes told Herald.
“I am also given to understand that efforts are being made to demand a second autopsy on the body.”
“We are not happy with the police investigations so far. In their first panchanama, the police claimed the D’Cruz had died as a result of natural causes. We were not happy with this report as we had seen that D’Cruz had sustained multiple injuries. On the first day itself, the police should have checked for fingerprints and should have pressed a dog squad into service,” Pontes added.
Unhappy with the investigations, Pontes and a friend met North Goa SP Priyanka Kashyap on Tuesday and narrated their grievances in the case.
“The SP has assured us that she will personally take interest and oversee the matter,” said Pontes.
Pontes and friends of the deceased are now making efforts to mobilize other residents of Calvim-Aldona to demand a thorough investigation into the death.
“If needed, we will stage a protest rally to demand justice in this matter. We want the truth to be revealed regarding the unexpected and untimely death of our friend,” said Pontes.
