MARGAO: Judicial Magistrate First Class, Canacona, Shanoor alias Jagdish P Audi on Monday would examine Sanjiv Raiturkar for allegedly using criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty.
The case stems from the incident that occurred in August last year when an electronic media team visited the Polem check post at early hours to see how the imported fish was being tested for formalin. The media team was accompanied by Sanjiv Raiturkar.
What was exposed was that the so called testing for formalin was a mere formality undertaken to fool the people. In the first place the FDA officials would not enter the trucks to check the fish and instead the driver would bring the fish to the officials for testing.
What was surprising was that huge trucks were cleared by testing only one prawn from it while the other fish was not even looked at. It was following this incident that the police had booked the case against Sanjiv.
Sanjiv expressed surprise that he has received intimation directly from the court asking to be present in court on Monday which he said he would do. However, he expressed surprise that as of now the police have not even recorded a single statement from him.
