MARGAO: In an interesting development, Special Public Prosecutor Adv Rajiv Gomes on Monday told the media that he has asked the police to arrest the builder and the former Canacona Municipal Chief Officers in connection with the Canacona building collapse case.
In another development, Special Judge, South Nutan Sardesai on Monday rejected the bail applications of Deputy Town Planner Prakash Bandodkar and Canacona Chief Officer Prashant Shirodkar in connection with the case.
The court also heard arguments on the bail application filed by building contractor Vishwas Desai. While Adv Carlos Alvares e Ferreira appeared for the contractor, Special Public Prosecutor Adv Rajiv Gomes represented the state.
In his arguments, Adv Ferreira said the contractor is sought to be implicated in the case, saying there’s nothing on record to show the contractor’s complicity in the case.
He pointed out that the contractor has not tampered with the witnesses and neither does he enjoys any clout to tamper with the witnesses.
Arguments on the contractor’s bail plea will continue on Tuesday as the special public prosecutor is expected to oppose bail application of the arrested contractor.
Meanwhile, with the police failing to arrest the builder of Ruby Residency and the former Canacona Chief Officers, even after a month after the building tragedy hit the taluka, Adv Gomes told the media that he has instructed the police to look out for the absconding builder and arrest them at the earliest.
