MARGAO: Demanding that the Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar recuse himself from the proceedings of the House with whatever dignity he can now muster, Independent MLA from Fatorda said the main Opposition party should take a call how to go about the issue of FIR against Arlekar.
He said the Budget session will be presided over by a distinguished personality, who is facing investigations under the Anti Corruption Branch of the Goa police after an FIR has been filed against him.
“I feel that his independence in functioning is likely to be compromised and I request the Speaker to recuse himself from the proceedings”, he said
He warned the Goa police not to try to be more loyal than the Kind and conclude the inquiry against the speaker before the commencement of the Assembly session so as to give him a clean chit to circumvent any allegation of any impropriety on his part to preside over the proceedings in the house.
When asked whether the opposition has chalked out any plan of action in the event the Speaker fails to recuse himself from the proceedings, Vijay said the main Opposition party should take a call on the issue.
