VASCO: Following a complaint by members of Animal Welfare Board about operation of illegal slaughter den at Morod in Cansaulim, Verna police on Saturday evening raided the premises owned by one Abdul Bepari (47) and arrested him under various sections of law.
According to police, a complaint was lodged by Harshvardhan Singh Rawat, a member of Animal Welfare Board, New Delhi, that Bepari and his son (full details not known) have been operating illegal slaughter house at their residence for sale of beef without the permission of competent authority.
Acting on the complaint, a team of Verna police raided the premises owned be Bepari and found few kilograms of animal flesh and skin from the site. Police also found animal blood scattered at the slaughtering area inside the premises of accused.
Similarly, police also found bones of cattle including fresh ones stored inside a fridge.
Slaughtering instruments such as knives, hooks and slaughtering stone were also found at the site and police have attached the same. “We also found nine young bulls tied behind the residence of accused person and the same were rescued by us,” police said.
Verna police have registered FIR against Bepari and arrested him under Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, Section 3 and 9 of the Goa Daman and Diu Cow Slaughter Act, Sections 2,4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 15 of Goa Animal Preservation Act, 1995, 1998 read with section 34 and section 429 and 295A of the Indian Penal Code.
The accused person was produced before court on Sunday and he was granted bail in the case. Police are investigating into the case.
